Tribute to the Goddess Ostara and the Green man

Ostara {Oh-star-ah}
depending on the colander was the name of the virgin goddess of spring in ancient Germany. It is for her that this sabbat is named. held between March 20-22 depending on the calendar.

This night we celebrate Ostara and the Green man. She the virgin goddess of spring and fertility, and he the spirit of the woodlands,the personification of the greening earth.

As spring reaches its midpoint night and day stand in perfect balance so do the god and goddess. It is a time of birth, beginnings, and new growth.

basket/eggs
quarter candles

ALTAR ARANGEMENT

one candle to far left and the other the far right. goddess candle in the center, empty bowls on floor to either side of candles, chalice next to each candle.


While going deosil three times taking up the athame,salt, incense,bell,bessom say:

To the goddess of the earth and the horn god I bless, consecrate, and charge this circle.
{East} To the guardians of the east please join us in this celebration of life and new growth.

{South}
To the guardians of the south please join us in the celebration light our way and keep us warm on this journey.

{West}
To the guardians of the west please join us in this celebration quench our thirst and cleanse our bodies.

{North}
To the guardians of the north please join us in this celebration help us find the path we need to travel on our journey between the worlds.

Placing athame above drink and offering say:
Goddess pure and God of power bless this food and drink this hour.
{hp/hps} We ask for health and benefit from nutrients we gain from it.

We stand at the center and balanced be the change of seasons meet here in us, from wintertime's dark and lonley nights, To summertimes warm and lively lights.

Now at the center , at ostara are we. Not light or dark to dominate the sky; but a time of lengthening light and day as we pass from balance to summer's day

Extinguish one candle representing balance. taking chalice on right hold up and say:

God of the sun and Lord of light we honor your spirit in which we delight.

Pour liquid into empty bowl then taking up the chalice on the left say:
Goddess of the earth and of the night I honor you spirit as the earth turns to light.

pour into bowl
you may if you wish silently thank our deities in our
own way

This next moon {a time of increased birth} is called the ostara and is sacred to Ostre.

in my dream.
Pail moon doth rain
red moon doth blow
white moon doth neither rain or snow
